Simon Rigg
Simon Rigg (1954–2021) was a renowned Australian mouth painter whose artistic career began after a fall from a hay shed at the age of 28 left him quadriplegic. During rehabilitation he was introduced to mouth painting, later developing it into a lifelong passion and profession. He joined the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists in 1990 and continued painting throughout his life, working from his home studio in Warrnambool.
Inspired by nature, family and the Australian landscape, Simon became known for his detailed and expressive works, created using specially adapted brushes held in his mouth. Despite ongoing physical challenges, he continued pursuing his art with determination and humour, exhibiting widely and achieving national recognition, including fulfilling a lifelong ambition of entering the Archibald Prize in 2017.
